Louis Vuitton

A Journey of endurance and elegance
The partnership between Spyker and Louis Vuitton dates back to one of the earliest long-distance automotive challenges of the twentieth century. In 1907, a privately entered Spyker 14/18HP Tourer, equipped with a custom-made Louis Vuitton luggage set, participated in the Peking to Paris raid.
The Peking to Paris motor challenge was one of the first attempts to prove the viability of the automobile over extreme distances. With limited infrastructure, no established routes and only rudimentary navigation, participants travelled over approximately 15,000 kilometres from Beijing to Paris. The journey crossed deserts, mountain ranges and remote regions, often requiring drivers to rely on local assistance, improvisation and mechanical self-sufficiency.
This demanding journey required both reliability and careful preparation. The Spyker completed the route and finished in second place.
The combination of Spyker and Louis Vuitton during this event is also regarded as one of the earliest known examples of a collaboration presented in a racing context, where branded equipment formed part of the overall entry.
Louis Vuitton’s involvement in this expedition reflected a practical approach to travel at the time. The luggage set was designed to support the journey, combining durability with functional design suited to the conditions.
This historical connection is reflected in the availability of Louis Vuitton luggage sets for several Spyker automobiles. These sets, which may include a custom-made tool kit, are produced to complement the specifications of each vehicle.
